We are going VIRTUAL!!!
While we had planned and hoped to have a live 2020 GMSD 5k Stampede and 1 Mile Color Run, it's not in the cards for us this year. However, we are excited to take our event virtual. Here is how it works.... 1) If you are currently registered, your payment is automatically applied to the virtual event. 2) We will continue to take registrations up until race day. Please encourage friends and family members to participate. 3) All 5k runners will be able to submit your virtual time, along with a photo/screenshot of their tracking devices to gmsd5kstampede.raceroster.com 4) We will mail all t-shirts to pre-registered runners so that they may run in their race t-shirts. Please take photos and videos and post them to social media to show our support for all GMSD teachers and staff! #GMSD5kstampede Our virtual race weekend will be Friday June 12 through Sunday, June 14th. Please post photos, videos, and submit any results to gmsd5kstampede.raceroster.com by June 17th. Anyone who registers by June 1st will receive their t-shirts before the virtual race weekend. If anyone registers after June 1st, they will receive their t-shirts by mail, but not by the actual race weekend. Please contact Robyn Rudisill with any questions at gef@gmsdk12.org. Thank you so much for your support of GMSD.

Mustang Family,
Congratulations to our seniors. Houston High School is excited to celebrate with you and your families despite the restrictions in place due to Safer-at-Home Orders. We thank our seniors and their families for engaging with us on our celebrations survey last week. Our staff has been meeting and creating many plans based on your feedback. We wanted to give an update of events that are planned to celebrate the Class of 2020. May 13th--Cap and Gown Pickup/Car Decoration Contest Seniors will be able to pick up their caps and gowns, honor cords, graduation records, along with some gifts from our PTSO and the Germantown Commissary. Our Student Government Association is partnering with our administration to award the senior with the “Best Decorated Car or Vehicle” with a grand prize. All this will start at 9:00 am and conclude at 2:00 pm. At this time, Seniors who do not require their laptops for AP or DE or other coursework will turn in their laptop devices and textbooks. Details of this event will be sent out very soon. (Rain date on May 14th) May 14th—Virtual Graduation Television Event Our GMTV and high school staff have been collaborating over the past two weeks to create a virtual celebration television event. The program will include taped speeches by some of our seniors, images of the Class of 2020, and a recognition of each graduate. This special program will air at 6 pm on Comcast Channel 17 and U-Verse Channel 99 while also premiering from our Germantown Municipal School District YouTube Channel at the same time. May 28th—Family Graduation Experience & Senior Parade Students will be asked to come to the school at an individually specified time. Each student and their family members (limit of 2 vehicles per student) will be able to enter the West drive, go around through the park, and experience the Senior Parade along with several surprise Spirit Stops. When they pull up to the front of the school, attendants will usher vehicles into a viewing location as the graduate exits the car for their personalized ceremony. The ceremony will include pomp and circumstance, a walk across the stage, the presentation of their diploma, a photo opportunity provided by Holland Studios, moving of the tassel, a hat toss, and opportunities for families to capture the moment up close and personal. Details of this event will be sent to families soon. (Rain date on May 29th) June 18th—Postponed Traditional Ceremony The district has reserved Bellevue Church for 7 pm on June 18th in the event that Safer-at-Home Orders are relaxed or substantially change in the next month. July 17th—Senior Send-Off Houston High School will be hosting their traditional Senior Picnic and Yearbook Signing. This event is tentative pending guidelines for large events. The factory where the Yearbooks are printed is currently closed. When that factory reopens, we will immediately notify families about a schedule for pickup. We are looking forward to seeing our seniors on May 13th! HHS Administration |
